Not quite in town and not quite in Anacapri, the area in and around the Marina Grande was formerly just a hangout for ferry riders and open-air cabs. The area is no home to two exciting new hotel ventures in the past year. The first is the wildly successful JK Capri, heralded by every fashionable magazine in existence, and the new Villa Marina just down the chic-Capri road. The hotel occupies a historic property and 19th Century villa overlooking the Bay of Naples and Sorrentine Peninsula. The three-story villa is home to formal restaurant Ziqù by Chef Mino Chiafele with locally sustain menu and open-air terrace with drinking lounge.

The multi-level resort terrace is woven between immaculate formal gardens, small resort pool, and tanning terrace overlooking the sea. The lush grounds and an adjacent park offer a more relaxed environment than the hustle of inner Capri or drive required to get to Anacapri. Visitors of the hotel are quickly booking-up the new Stai Spa with it's high-end fitness center, infinity pool, Turkish bath, and panoramic solarium staffed by Italian goddesses overlooking Mt. Vesuvius.
The Room
A smaller and quainter Capri hotel than the Quisi or Capri Palace, Marina Grande follows the recent trend of smaller more gentile properties like the JK Capri and La Scalinatella. Exclusivity is the name of the game, with 21 uniquely decorated rooms arranged over three floors overlooking a manicured garden with sweeping views of the Bay of Naples. While we miss the views of rock formation from inner Capri and hotel along the Via Tragara, the distant views of Vesuvius and Naples are almost as spectacular. Each room is decorated in a different color, with natural stone floors and modern furnishings inspired by such artists as Marinetti, Colemann and Neruda. Pastel tones with rich browns and creams liven-up interior rooms with fun maple consoles, striped settees and upholstered chairs in eclectic shapes. Bathrooms are immaculate in design with lavish toiletries and fluffy linens conducive to long summer stays and romantic weekend rendezvous. While most rooms offer large double windows opening to the sea, larger suites include well-furnished private patios and terraces fit for entertaining and sneaking some sun free of tan lines.
